Additional Info
I failed my classes because I got sick and was not mentally prepared for college. A month before my freshman year of college at Grand Canyon University, I got sick and went through various tests because nobody knew what was wrong with me. I went from 138Ibs to 99Ibs over the course of two weeks, because I was not able to eat without throwing the food back up. I went to the hospital on average three times a week due to rapid heart palpitations and went through a series of tests. Later on, I was diagnosed with esophageal hiatal hernia, gastrointestinal reflux disease, anxiety, insomnia, and scoliosis, which had caused my hips to pop at random, my ankles to face in the wrong direction affecting the way I walked, and muscles on my shoulder to knot up. The next month I went to school instead of taking time off because I did not want to fall behind and that was the first mistake that I made. While undergoing treatment (physical therapy and the chiropractor) and taking medication for insomnia, migraines, anxiety, and GERD I had no time to do homework as I was a commuter school.
My daily schedule was six am wake up, six-fifty of to school. five pm chiropractors and physical therapy. Seven pm arrive at home and do homework/eat. Nine pm take sleeping medicine and go to bed. I spent my off days babysitting my younger siblings because I felt obligated to do so. Reason being my parents paid for the remaining tuition that I had. This was too much for me to handle which caused me to fail my classes.
During the spring semester, I thought that I was better and did not have to rely on medication to function throughout the day, yet, I was wrong. I still failed my classes which caused me to flunk out of university. Being the first in the family to flunk out of university made me feel like a failure, I let my mother and younger siblings down. It’s my job as the oldest to set the bar high.
This failure kept on happening, so I took some time off to improve my health and mindset to positive thinking. I started back on my anxiety and acid reflux medication and began to find myself. Throughout the year of 2017 and 2018, I came to the realization that it's okay to rely on medication to function and do your daily activities. I began going to church more on a daily basis, workout twice a week, and challenge myself by reading a new book every week. My favorite two are “No Longer Human”, by Osamu Dazai and “Look Homeward, Angel”, by Thomas Wolfe. I
