  • Education History I graduated high school as a class of 2020. My best grades were in subjects surrounding Mathematics, and I did very well with learning complex concepts. My education helped me build a strong foundation and professional discipline, allowing me to continue to develop in-demand skills while attending college.
I’m currently majoring in Business Administration at Missouri State University-west plains. I knew that I wanted to go into Business from day one, so I chose a college with a strong finance program and a broad alumni network.

  • Additional Info The last days of my high school were filled with uncertainty due to COVID-19.
“A lot of people were like so ‘what do you do now? How’s it all going to work?’” I said.
“I’m just as clueless as you are, I don’t know how this is going to work. Some of the career people (at my school) were just like, OK, ‘just make sure to go to college’, but a lot of us were thinking ‘is there going to be college this upcoming semester?’ ”

I am proud to be among the class of 2020. Despite the pandemic ruining our graduation, with those of us in group homes being nearly twice as likely to have had our post-high school plans disrupted by COVID-19 and its resulting economic fallout. We overcame the tough times and are still strong.

  • Additional Info Some people are born singers, painters, or dancers. They are born with a proclivity, a drive (even if subtle), a talent. They possess a gift. They breeze through stages of development. Other people might also have drive or ambition and some talent but they have to work hard to archive their full potential.
I was terrible at art, my studying and painting lessons have helped me to some degree but l have not become a great draftsperson or renderer.

  • Additional Info From childhood-onset fluency disorder to homelessness, and ending up in a group home. Only at the basketball gym could I be myself; the sound of the ball bouncing and the happiness I feel when I step on the court replaces every other worry I have. I did not need to worry about the hardships of life. Rather, I just needed to make a lay-up and shoot the ball.

From its good-natured bruise-counting competitions to its culture of hard work and perseverance, Basketball provided the nurturing environment that made my other challenges worthwhile. Knowing that each moment on the court represented a financial sacrifice for my family, I cherished every second I got.

Community Service

  • History I didn’t really understand my community until I was forced to see it from the outside; sort of like when you see a picture of yourself someone else took that you weren’t aware of. It took being in a group home for me to gain a different perspective of the world, of my world. When I was in high school I noticed there were other kids from group homes like me. These kids don’t have access to tutors so I offered help to them every chance I got. Since I excelled in Algebra I asked teachers at my school to connect me with students in need.
