  • Additional Info Dear mom and dad, thank you. I don't say it enough, but I'm beyond grateful for everything you do for Reanna and me. You came from Nepal, to America, unsure of what the future held and took a leap of faith. Mom, you worked at Walmart and baby sat. You did this all while walking from work to home, which consisted of a rented room the size of a bathroom. Dad, you worked two jobs as well, from before the sun rose to the midst of night. I was always amazed how you got through every day with uncertainty and uneasiness lingering over your minds.Through moments of failure, you persevered through challenging times by looking ahead towards your dreams. It takes pure desire and bravery to do what you two did, and nothing I ever accomplish in life will ever amass the appreciation and will I have towards my parents. The reason I have become the man I am today is because of you. Your past struggles and current work ethic have taught me to never give up in times of despair while working towards my ambitions. In school I'm far from natural brilliance, I have to work extremely hard for every grade I earn. At one point I started obtaining unhealthy psychological habits because of the cloud of stress hovering over me. I felt completely overshadowed by darkness, but determined to make a change no matter the rigid adherence involved. Now I see struggling times as moments of self-growth rather than pain. Throughout high school, I felt as if I found who I truly was. I'm a young man who never gives up, and who will keep pushing towards his dreams no matter the negative trials that come forth, and that's all thanks to you. - “A Letter To You”, By: Josh Shrestha

Opportunity; defined in the english dictionary as, a set of circumstances that makes it possible to do something. In life we have many dreams and goals but sometimes as humans we have the need to give up when things seem out of reach. No matter the setbacks anything is possible. We need to seize the opportunities we receive and never take them for granted, and that's what I've been doing the last four years. My parents worked hard to send me to a rigorous high school like Saint Johns and I've made it my duty to give it my all. In school I'm far from natural brilliance, but I always strive to be great. I'm relentless when it comes to reaching for perfection. Junior year ,during my free periods, I would sit in on other math classes to understand the material, after track and football practice I always go to the Shrewsbury library to study and do homework because I feel more efficient and whenever I don't understand concepts i'm constantly seeing teachers before and after school. I don't have 4.0, just heart. My hard work showed when I was inducted to The National Honors Society this year and had a GPA jump from a 3.149 to nearly a 3.3 within two years while taking four APs! Outside of the classroom I participate in Breakfast with Books and Project Purple, a program whose main initiative is to bring awareness to the dangers of substance abuse and encourage positive decisions. On the field I'm a four year varsity football player (three year starter) and participates in indoor track and currently outdoor track. I've committed to play D3 football at Union College. I'm a first-generation child and will be the first to attend college. My parents came in from Nepal in the early 90s and currently work at a convenience store. This scholarship would mean a lot and greatly help my family long term because economically my parents and I are doing the best we can. Thank you.
