  • Additional Info The Anchor of Hope Foundation is a non-profit organization which focuses primarily on helping families that have special needs children. For 5 years I was heavily involved in this organization. Every month they hosted a Parent's Night Out, in which families with special needs kids would be able to leave them in a safe environment for an evening, and be able to have a night off. These parents do not generally get the chance to have a night to themselves, away from the craziness that is parenting, since it extraordinarily difficult to find childcare for special needs children. I would oven be paired one-on-one with a non-verbal boy who had autism, and getting to know him and see how misunderstood he was in so many situations was a truly wonderful experience.

The Anchor of Hope Foundation also hosted the annual Autism Awareness Festival. Nearly every year it was hosted I was among the volunteers. We assisted in every way possible, from set-up, to clean-up, to running the booths, to administrative work.
