Additional Info
Being a waitress taught me how to handle many tasks at the same time, during times of stress. I learned how to deal with difficult customers and fellow colleagues while maintaining my professional demeanor. I was filled with pride knowing I did a good job when my patrons called into the corporate headquarters and gave positive reviews regarding my service. It was a valuable experience and it gave me great insight to those who work in the service department. I used the money I earned to pay for half of my ticket to Japan. My parents and I both believed it was important that I have some financial responsibility in my journey.

4 years ago I fell in love with the Japanese culture. On my own, I decided to teach myself Japanese. Soon after, my parents found a tutor to accelerate my learning. My mother is a former exchange student and she encouraged me to do so as well. My city has a sister city in Japan and we were able to put together an extended trip for me to stay there. To further strengthen the bonds between the 2 cities, I was appointed to the office of Goodwill Ambassador. It's a 3 year office, unless I choose to extend my term. I want to share my love of the Japanese culture and people with other students. I came up with an idea to put together a scholarship fund to send 4 students, a chaperone, and a translator to Kuji every year. I presented the idea to our Mayor and the Mayor in Kuji. The monetary foundation of the scholarship will come from local Japanese companies. In doing it in this manner, there will be no need to use taxpayer money. The Franklin mayor thought it was a great idea and set up a meeting for me to address the city council. I went before them, with a presentation showing them the breakdown of funds needed, for each area, plane ticket, train ticket, food, etc.. The city council has green lit my idea and I'm now setting up appointments with the Japanese businesses as well as the local high school to recruit applicants for the scholarship. The first trip will take place in 2020. That year marks the 60 year anniversary and celebration of our sister city bond. I'm very passionate about this and this will be a big part of my future. It is my desire to live in Japan and to, if possible, study there during some of my college years.
